I've been meaning to feature this gaudy wonder for three Summers now.
1960s vintage, right down to the grease stains. Once again, the generous gift of Mrs. G., well back in the pre-Mrs. G. days.
What could be more patriotic (for an American savage such as yours truly) that a shirt covered in steak and onions rendered in good old red-white-and-blue?
Here's hoping your holiday was filled with warm weather and cheeseburgers.
Try Fels-Naptha soap on those stains and prepare to be amazed.
ReplyDeleteI am...awestruck. That is perfect suburban US dad, it should be in a time capsule. Leave the stains
ReplyDeleteI've been vegetarian for almost 15 years... and that is one hell of an amazing shirt!
ReplyDeleteWarm weather, yes! Cheeseburgers, no. Great shirt. If Fels-Naptha takes out o-l-d grease stains I'll buy stock in it! Let us know.
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it, love it! The best backyard barbecue shirt EVER. Even I would wear it untucked--and I always tuck in my shirt tails.
ReplyDeleteIf Fels-Naphtha should fail, the other option is Dawn dish detergent. It's what they use to get spilled crude oil off of wildlife, rocks, and the like. Just make sure to soak it at least overnight, if not for a couple of days.
No barbecuing this year, but I did watch my children splashing in their brand-new kiddie pool. What better way to enjoy the day?
Have you ever actually worn this shirt? The kitsch value is off the charts.
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious because I know of at least one item in my wardrobe that I simply knew I had to buy, yet I cannot see myself wearing it, nor ever getting rid of it.
I've worn it plenty of times, though I admit it has never left the back yard.
ReplyDelete"[this supremely fabulous shirt] has never left the back yard."
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I would wear it. (I think my wife would refuse to be seen in public with me wearing it, but that's beside the point.)

ReplyDeleteThought you may enjoy the read.

ReplyDeleteJealous! I would rock this outside the house ... think lake, pontoon boat, grilling, fishing, and laughing ...
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Grease stains mean "I love you".
ReplyDeleteA real beauty.
ReplyDeletePatio Daddy-o!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!!
if it can stand hot water, a stain fighting mixture that has helped me out is this: 1/3 cascade automatic dishwashing detergent, 1/3 oxyclean (or knockoff equivalent) and 1/3 clorox 2 powder (the colorsafe bleach)...combine all three in HOT tap water, and let soak, preferrably overnight.
ReplyDeleteas long as it is colorsafe for the hot water, you'll be amazed at how this concoction can restore vintage linens, which happen to be a hobby of mine (well, before kids anyway)
Great shirt! I am impressed :)
ReplyDeleteLove vintage pattern and print. Easiest way to look like a complete rock STAR.
Also, easiest way to look like a slick and polished gentleman.
Sincerely,
