Innsearching for the video clip used in yesterdays post, I came across a few other things that really impressed me. Once again, men dressed in black and white:
This may surprise some, if not many of you, but as I see it there is a clear common thread running through each of these wonderful performances. It's not the black and white clothes. Think on it for a while. If you don't see it, I may not be the one to show it to you.
If you do see it, congratulations. You love music itself more than you are concerned with this or that version of it. At it's very best all music is, in all its various forms, an expression of humanity at its deepest, no matter what it happens to sound like.
Back to our ongoing discussion of being overdressed all the time tomorrow.
Really enjoyed this post! I've been a huge fan of The Jam, The Style Council and anything Paul Weller has done. I am always suprised that he is not mentioned more on these clothing blogs, not only for his musical contribution but for his personal style. In the 70's/80's who looked as smart as Paul Weller? He personified the classic sixties American Ivy look with a touch of English mod (of course). As a disciple since the late-Jam days, he has always been my sartorial mentor, except maybe over the last 5 years or so. Anyhow, I've been reading your blog for about 3 years now and have learned so much. You truly are a gentleman and a scholar! You help give life to the Mod creed as expressed by the late Pete Meaden: "...clean living under difficult circumstances".
ReplyDeleteThe Jam? An excellent choice to include in this post!

P.S.
The necktie with the cross country skiers is great! I'll send you a photo of t in action.
I'm a bit thick in the head sometimes and I used to like playing the game on the radio where they would play three songs with a common theme and someone would call in and guess what that theme was, so I'm going to guess...
ReplyDeleteThe unifying theme is that they are all great tunes. Right?
Ummm...They are all stringed instruments?
ReplyDeleteArthur Rubinstein- too popular.
ReplyDeleteJascha Heifetz- not avant garde enough.
The Jam- both.
Seriously, what they have in common is that all 3 made me say, "Holy $#|+!"
Apropos of nothing, concerning the blogroll on the right side of the page -- isn't the N'East Style blog run by a lady? Any reason for it to be grouped with what seem to be entirely gents' blogs, instead of under "Ladies of the Club"?
ReplyDeleteJho78,
ReplyDeleteBingo.
Ha G! I didn't think I could possibly be right - but I guess simple worked. Enjoyed so much!
ReplyDeleteThe Jam makes me think I need tailored stage clothes. Back when my band was playing out all the time my entire wardrobe was blue jeans and solid black t-shits. -WDM
