Jeans on Grown Ups

Wearing jeans (or dungarees as I so obnoxiously tend to call them here) and still maintaning the feeling that one is dressed like a "grown up" while not looking like a walking mid-life crisis isn't always the easiest thing to do. I find that it tends to be the footwear that makes or breaks a jeans outfit.
There are a lot of good choices out there, but the combination of favorite-old-well-washed-blue-jeans, charcoal socks, and big fat brown pebble grain bluchers is hard to beat.

  1. Potentially dangerous advice, for two reasons:

    1. Generally, wearing mid-blue jeans with those shoes *will* look like a mid-life crisis; and while they may be well-cut, the little fabric we can see makes me worry they're not.

    2. That makes the crux of the outfit the top half - this alone can either save things, or cast you into the abyss...

  2. Pharmaboy:
These are Wrangler 13mwz jeans in rigid denim that have been worn and washed a million times. I've featured them in many previous posts. They have reached a perfectly conformed "custom" fit. Mark my words, old washed denim will also soon be the next big thing.

Up top, an un-ironed university striped blue oxford and a vintage 1960s brown tweed jacket. No fanny packs, white athletic sneakers, sports jerseys or full cut star hed dress shirts.

  3. 'Seppe...

University striped BD oxford, jeans, a tweed or corduroy sports coat and Clark's "original" suede desert boots Sperry Topsiders.

    That's the ticket!

  4. I think I would prefer some striped socks with penny loafers. Your version looks a little too much like you might have tape on your glasses.

  5. Tan chukka (desert) boots. Worked for me in the '60s. Works for me in my 60's.

  6. David,

Sounds like a great combination, and I love how you phrased it.

Has the indigo dye from the jeans ever rubbed off onto your chukkas?

  7. Indigo dye is only a problem for folks who never wash their jeans.
Momma didn't raise me that way.

  8. Love the blog Giuseppe, but have to agree that these coloured jeans are not the best. To keep a dark indigo, wash them inside out with half cup of salt (to prevent dye loss) and do not spin. Air dry only. Sorry for the negativity.

  9. Washed inside out in cold water, air dried only. This is what jeans look like when they get old. Taking great pains to preserve the dye goes against the very nature of the garment itself, if you ask me.

Never apologize for disagreeing with me. So long as you can do it like an adult, which you did, your comments are welcome.

  10. I have to disagree with you on the proper adult footwear to wear with jeans. As a Southerner I would have to say that cowboy boots are a very appropriate selection. I don't see to many kids walking around with cowboy boots today and it is a long standing tradition for Southern men to don cowboy boots once they reach a certain stage in their maturation process.
