The Past

Cape Cod, Summer of 1993, age 16. Vintage 1940s double breasted jacket from the thrift store. Rubinacci shirt, silk ascot, straw hat and Ferragamo leather and canvas spectator shoes all from the late great Filene's Basement of Downtown Crossing in Boston.

20 years later, and some thing never change.

Rubinacci at 16? Child prodigy!

At the time, all I knew was that it was Italian and should have been very expensive.

Dang G, looking good. The only thing you're missing is a punch to the face...but then again, what sixteen-year old doesn't?

Aside from the brutally oversized jacket that's a remarkable outfit for a kid. -WDM

That jacket actually fit pretty snug, but it did have broad shouldered 1940s style tailoring.

I too am a proud thrifting child of Boston's Filene's Basement. Lord I miss that place :(

And man did you score!

I'm from Minnesota and we had a brief run of a Filene's Basement at the Mall of America when it opened in '92. I was 11 back then and all I remember was that it was something like what TJ Maxx and Marshall's are now. Is the FB that was in Boston way different than the animal I saw as a kid?
