Great Moments in History

You all know I'm not usually one to use this blog as a place to gush about my family, but today's triple header of special occurrences simply could not go unremarked:
The Boy, by his own choice, decides to wear a bow tie for the first time today. For this historic event, I offered a vintage Indian madras number from Trimingham's of Bermuda. A great look for a four year old boy with a blue oxford, embroidered khaki shorts and crocs...definitely not for grown ups, but I'd say he's headed down the right path.

The Girl discovers  her love of the Ramones, particularly Blitzkrieg Bop, which was played at top volume half a dozen times before bath and bed tonight. Stripping naked and dancing frantically to the Ramones is great for a two year old girl...probably not for grown ups, but I'd say she's on the right path.

Mrs. G. decides to take up chess. She's brand new to it, but I haven't played in so long we're nearly equals. Sure, I beat her twice, but she did put up an impresive fight...but bragging is not for grownups, forgive me.

All in all, not  a bad day.

That pic of your daughter is adorable. You'll have to keep it for the obligatory wedding slide show.

Awesome trifecta!

What constitutes an affordable wardrobe for chess playing?

Your kids are great - sometimes I pretend I'm still a kid. Adulthood isn't all it's cracked up to be!

My Mrs. refuses to take up chess. She looooves board games and will regularly interupt a great conversation with "lets play a game!" When I agree and pull out the chess set, I usually endure a beat-down. How confusing.
Keep up the parenting, which should probably include an eventual kabosh on the naked dancing thing.

Nice looking kids with good taste in clothes and music! Oh, and somehow chess seems more interesting that Yahtzi, but don't let my wife know. ;-)

Best Regards,

I'm 34 and still not above dancing around naked to the Ramones on occasion.

Love Triminghams-great choice. Love The Ramones (think I may even have an album somewhere?)--another great choice. Love chess (though am also very out of practice)--3rd great choice...bravo Mrs. G!

G,

If you don't mind my asking, where did you find those record shelves?

Funny, for my daughter it was "Barbarella" by the Bongos.

The first photo is a classic.

Also, in the right setting, dancing naked to the Ramones sounds like good fun.

I totally agree that we as grown-ups has to act and dress according to our age, but if you're not allowed to dance frantically and naked to Blitzkrieg Bop, then I'm getting off this train...
Great looking kids. Be proud and remember to tell them.

You're a lucky man!

Congrats on some excellent and satisfying occasions! My daughter is 17 months and hasn't discovered the Ramones yet, but I have a copy of that very LP around, so it may just happen someday. If I have a son one day I hope he has similar taste as well.
You, Sir, have a lot to be proud of. You are rich in all the things that matter.

I love the cheesy smiles for the camera—my oldest does the same.

You have riches far greater than money, mio amico.

The best part, of course, is that Blitzkrieg Bop can be played a half dozen times in under 15 minutes. Keep that bath train on schedule!

Are your kids ok around the turntable? (Please tell me I don't need to stow the vinyl rig when my newborn son starts to walk.)

Love the vinyl collection. Ramones are always a great choice! Any other favorite vinyls in particular?
