Merry

I love wrapping presents and drinking single malt Scotch on Christmass Eve. It's a good tradition, one I gave myself. In the old days, it was a $60 bottle (Talisker 10 year old and Lagavulin 16 year old being favorites in the colder months) and a bunch of stuff for (the not yet) Mrs. G.
These days, it's a mountain of toys and the best stuff in nips I could find. And life couldn't be better, because Christmas is a kid's holiday anyway.

Here's hoping yours was as good as mine. Cheers!

My day was spent singing improvised sing-alongs (his favorite was a Tom Waits-inspired growl about sloppy joe) with a 5 year old and his badly out-of-tune christmas guitar, building rubber block towers with a 1 year old, and exchanging the gift of food with the adults. Now I'm nursing a glass of malbec to wind down the day, so I'd rate it all pretty darn high on the scale.

Cheers to you and your family this holiday season, and happiness and health now and in the near year.

Smitten with an appalling cold and being the 'designated driver' I have just passed my first completely teetotal Christmas day in more than 35 years. Perhaps this, and a wonderful 8.00 a.m. Prayer Book communion service, brought tears to my eyes.

Happy Christmas, Wardrobe, thanks for all the great stuff you write so well about (note for 2011: more care on spelling).

Glory to God in the Highest and Peace to His People on Earth.

Merry belated Christmas, Giu.
I'm a sucker for Bunnahabhain 18 yr, myself.
One of my brother's-in-law dropped new bottles of Talisker and Laphroaig out on my parent's driveway a few Christmas's back. Losing the Talisker was a minor tragedy. The Laphroaig...well, not so much.

Heavy Tweed Jacket!?!?

I feel like George Bailey when brother Harry shows up on Christmas. Wow.

ADG,

I was on a roll of grumpiness at Christmas for a few years 'fore the kids. One of the may things they saved for me, God love'em.

Everyone else,

Cheers and thank you.

I'm a newish reader here, but I've enjoyed this blog and the friendly atmosphere over the last 6 months or so. I hope christmas brought you joy and that the New Year brings even more.

I got a bottle of 12 year old Chivas Regal. I don't like whiskey however.

Merry Christmas to all!

I know about economizing due to family (and a mortgage), but I still have some Laphroaig (my favorite, thankyouverymuch) and a few other bottles around--but not as many as I'd like.

After all, if it's a choice between a bottle of, say, tequila, and saving up for, say, another pair of shoes, well, which do you think is going to win?

Best wishes to all for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

I was introduced to single malt back when I worked for the US Army 63rd RRC Reserves Company Team Leadership Development Course. An old crusty SGT like to wear a kilt and drink The Glenlevit. I like it pleanty but if you want to drink some really good whiskey try to get ahold of Van Winkle 12 year old bourbon.

Happy New years! Be blessed!!!

Balvenie makes (or made) a small triple sampler in 12/15/18-year 100ml bottles... twice the size of a standard 50ml "nip" bottle. For the price, it was the best gift around. I used to buy small $4 metal painting buckets, fill them with ice, and drop in the 3 mini-bottles as inexpensive-yet-nice house-warming gifts.
